Information Systems and Supply Chain Management
The increasingly rapid evolution of digital technologies is disrupting companies' business models, changing traditional methods of producing and distributing goods and services and impacting supply chains.
In-depth rethinking of business and organizational models
If companies try to transform their business without changing their culture, processes, and ways of doing things, they will no longer be able to be competitive.
A fundamental rethinking of business and organizational models is required. To achieve this transformation, companies can draw on many different digital tools, models and technologies, such as data analytics and artificial intelligence.
In this context of digital evolution, but also increasing pressure on companies to behave ethically and responsibly, supply chain management plays a central role in the transition to responsible digital business models. Companies also need to add value to this approach by integrating it across their entire stakeholder network.
While the use of digital technologies can help improve supply chain transparency, managers must also be prepared to manage the resulting risks and build resilience.
Key challenges also include energy transition and innovation within extended supply networks.
Our IPSERA-certified department, addresses these multifaceted challenges through research and teaching in the areas of digital technology and responsible supply chains. We help students and companies understand the opportunities offered by these new technologies and their impact on business strategies, processes and people. To meet today's challenges, we also explore the ability of technologies to support sustainable initiatives and the responsible management of these technologies.
Expertise
Companies increasingly recognize that they cannot be more responsible than their extended supply chains. In fact, the tools to improve supply chain sustainability and transparency of supplier practices are still in their infancy. In addition, the challenges associated with decarbonization and energy transition are far from being adequately understood and mapped. This line of research and teaching advances knowledge on these fronts from multiple perspectives, involving not only companies but also non-profit organizations and diverse stakeholders.
We cover the following topics:
- Circular Supply Chains and Sustainable Sourcing
- Energy Transition, Supply Chain Decarbonization
- Supply Network Transparency, Traceability, and Disclosure
- Technology and Diversification
- Cybersecurity & Data Protection
Today, companies are dealing with an enormous amount of data. Companies that used to manage only one type of technology, such as ERP, now need to leverage this data with a combination of emerging digital technologies, such as blockchain or artificial intelligence. As these technologies continue to evolve, it's important to understand their contours, capabilities, and impact on business and society.
We address various technologies, including:
- Blockchain - Cryptocurrencies
- Big Data
- Artificial Intelligence
- Cloud Computing
- AgriTech
