Purchasing sourcing from START-UPS

Purchasing sourcing from START-UPS

The chair “Purchasing and digital innovation”, in collaboration with IPSERA (www.ipsera.com)  organized a webinar on March 9th 2022, about the theme Purchasing sourcing from START-UPS. It was held in presence of Prof. Dr. Stephan Wagner and two start-ups Archlet and Novable.
After interesting insights from all speakers and also participants, we summarized the 5 key take-away for purchasers willing to expand their innovation sourcing through start-ups:

  1. speed is the key
  2. detection of the start-up is often based on non-financial, contextual, unstructured data collection
  3. AI can help to facilitate the detection phase
  4. Collaborating and engaging with start-ups requires structured gates, e.g. a new model for managing corporate-start-up partnership
  5. there are two types of start-ups: start-ups supporting the purchasing processes (often IS editors) and start-ups becoming suppliers of a specific technology. Both are critically important.

In sum, this requires purchasing to develop new skills and competencies, to adapt purchasing organizations, processes and strategies !

A clear agenda for future research has been established at the end of the workshop. Good food for thoughts !

This event was organized by IPSERA Special interest group Thomas E. Johnsen , Audencia and Axys Consultants, partner of the Audencia chair "Purchasing and digital innovation".

A warm thank you to Prof. Dr. Stephan Wagner Fabian Lampe Laurent Kinet for their contribution, and also to Leonardo Marques Robert Suurmond for their technical assistance !
